How to join the Northeast Fire & Rescue Company

Who we are?

The Northeast Fire & Rescue was formed in 2011 after a merger between the Summerdale Fire Company & Citizens Fire Company #1 of Enola. In 2012, both Station's apparatus was merged into the Summerdale location. A few years later, the Company renovated the Citizens Station making space to house our Township's Fire Police along with two rental spaces. In 2016, the Company once again merged, this time with the Good Will Fire Company of West Fairview. As of today, we currently operate out of two stations, Summerdale and West Fairview with our Fire Police operating out of their own station. Our company operates an Engine, Rescue-Engine, Engine-Tanker, Rescue, Brush unit, two utility trucks and two command vehicles. Our company averages approximately 500 incidents a year which are answered by approximately 30 to 35 active members. Our company also currently is part a specialized team, the Cumberland County Technical Rescue Operations Team.

Want to talk first?

If you are curious about joining an all-volunteer fire company and want to talk to someone and take a tour of our organization before making a commitment, please send us an email or call us at 717-732-0047.

Do I have to be a firefighter?

No, we are always looking for help with support activities to include fundraising, capital campaigns, events, public outreach etc., along with fire police, and junior members ages 14 to 17.

Our current membership categories include: Active, Support, Associate, Fire Police or Junior.

How to apply?

Just properly fill out our application, sign and either mail or drop off at,

202 Third Street

Enola, PA 17025

Please make sure to include copies of background checks, any copies of previous fire, rescue, or medical training you may have along with your $5.00 application fee.

What happens next?

Applications received will be processed by our membership committee which is chaired by our Vice President. After review, the application will be presented to the membership at the monthly company meeting on the last Thursday of each month. Between the initial presentation and the next meeting, the membership committee will complete a review and investigation which may include a scheduled interview between the applicant and the membership committee. After all of this process is completed and the membership committee approves the application to move forward, the membership will be presented with application to be voted into the company as a probationary member. A new members probationary status remains for the first six months, unless deemed necessary by the board of directors and/or company membership to be extended.

Now you are a member

Once the membership has approved your probationary membership, you will be notified by our company's Membership Secretary of you being accepted as a new member. You will then be assigned a mentor to meet with you and start the process of your probationary accomplishments including an introduction into our organization. You will be shown your role and provided the necessary items to help you along the way to include in house training or third-party training.

Incentives to becoming a volunteer member

Currently our company has the following to offer with much more to come. In late 2021, our Company was notified that we were the successful recipients along with 19 other local fire companies to receive a FEMA SAFER Recruitment & Retention grant. An update on the incentives that come with this for our active members will be presented shortly as logistics are being worked on.
