HISTORY OF THE GOOD WILL FIRE COMPANY #1

 

  • 1/31/1908 - West Fairview Fire Company is organized
  • 4/1908 - Company builds first apparatus, a ladder wagon and is housed at first station, a small garage on Biddle Street
  • 1909- Company purchases first chemical wagon apparatus for $650
  • 7/12/1912 - The Company is re-oraganized as the Good Will Fire Company No.1 of West Fairview
  • 8/1912- The Company purchases ground on 3rd Street for a new firehouse
  • 3/4/1913 - The Company becomes incorporated
  • 11/1913 - Breaks ground for new firehouse
  • 10/1915 - The new firehouse is dedicated
  • 12/1915 - The ladies auxilary is formed
  • 4/1918 - The Company purchases a used hose cart and sells the chemical wagon
  • 4/1923 -  Purchases the Company's first motorized apparatus, 1923 Boyer Chemical truck
  • 11/1924 - The ladies auxilary is re-organized
  • 7/2/1926 - Company votes to build and operate gas station on corner of Fairview Avenue & State Rd.
  • 5/1927 - Purchases a new Seagrave engine for $8,750
  • 3/1928 - The Junior Fire Company is formed
  • 1/1/1929 - First annual New Years dinner hosted by ladies auxilary for town members, free of cost
  • 9/1934 - Good Will Fire Company Band is formed
  • 12/1940 - First Fire Chief Lester "Buck" Sawyer steps down after 18 years due to illness, S. William Brougher is elected as Fire Chief
  • 9/1941 - Company purchases a 1937 GM Emergency Truck
  • 9/1942 - Company hosts the annual CCVFFA Convention
  • 12/1948 - Company installs Ambulance Service with 1937 Buick Ambulance
  • 1952 - Company has 94 Ambulance calls and 12 Fire calls
  • 9/1958 - Company hosts the annual CCVFFA Convention
  • 3/11/1959 - Receives new 1958 Seagrave engine at a cost of $18,500
  • 1961 - Company Marching Club is formed
  • 1965 - Company Marching Club is disbanded, unknown why
  • 10/1965 - 1960 Pontiac Ambulance purchased
  • 3/1964 - Company purchases land for new firehouse at current location
  • 10/1965 - Purchases 1937 Seagrave engine from Good Will Fire Company of Carlisle
  • 1/23/1968 - Fire Chief S. W. Brougher passes away in the line of duty, commanding a fire in town
  • 2/1968 - William Kindness is elected as the new Fire Chief
  • 9/13/1968 - New & current firehouse is dedicated
  • 9/1968 - Company hosts the annual CCVFFA Convention
  • 3/1971 - The Company burns the mortgage for the new firehouse after paying it off
  • 1972 - Purchases 1969 Cadillac Ambulance
  • 11/1975 - Purchases 1974 light rescue truck
  • 1975 - Company acquires the Annex building from the Lions Club
  • 9/1978 - Company receives new Seagrave engine
  • 9/1978 - Company hosts the annual CCVFFA Convention
  • 1979 - Purchases 1975 Chevy Ambulance, the last Ambulance ever purchased by the company
  • 1988 - Purchases 1984 beverage truck and converts it into Squad
  • 1991 - The Company gets out of the Ambulance Service and sells the Ambulance
  • 8/1997 - The Company recevies a new 1997 Seagrave Engine
  • 1/1999 - The Borough of West Faiview merges with East Pennsboro Township, becoming a village again
  • 2000 to 2007 - The Company goes through a number of rough years, financially
  • 2008 - The Company has recovered financially and internally reorganized
  • 2007 - Company runs 77 calls
  • 2008 - Company runs 89 calls
  • 2008 - Company puts in service its first Water Rescue Team
  • 9/4/2009 - Company places in service 1997 New Lexington engine purchased from Londonderry Twp. Fire Company by East Pennsboro Twp.
  • 2015 - Company runs 150 calls
  • 2015 - Company is struggling with low amount of active members, looks at options to keep firehouse active in West Fairview
  • 1/1/2016 - Company merges with Northeast Fire & Rescue Company and is now Company 20, Station #2
  • As of 2022, the West Fairview firehouse is still active with an Engine & Utility housed for calls
